Hi all,
I've been revisiting my college days--living in a dorm at Vassar College--in Poughkeepsie, New York since the beginning of July. It's not as pretty as Kenyon (my alma mater), but it has its charms.
As the Founder's Award winner for New York Stage & Film, I am granted four weeks of writing time, access to the staff and visiting artists (actors, directors, composers, etc), as well as all rehearsals and presentations.
It has been productive and tiring and lonely and enlightening.
My play, AND ALL THE DEAD LIE DOWN, will be workshopped starting tomorrow with actors Jon-Michael Reese, Stephen Tyrone Williams and Aaron Roman Weiner. Sheryl Kaller is directing.
[Many thanks to mom and dad for the brilliant care package! And to Lee for the brilliant postcard!]
I'm flying back to St. Paul this weekend to fulfill some obligations [including another reading of AND ALL THE DEAD LIE DOWN at Pillsbury House in Minneapolis] and maybe (just maybe) to see the 'rents (if they decide to drive through on their way back to Kansas)!
Hopefully I'll catch Lee in NYC next week (if I can pry him away from work obligations) and then back to Poughkeepsie for the final week of my residency. All good things MUST come to an end!
I'll be in NYC for most of August workshopping my musicals FIVE POINTS and PARIS BLUES and relaxing with some theater viewing (chiefly Best Musical Tony winner FUN HOME and new Broadway blockbuster HAMILTON).
I hope you're all having a joyous summer!
I think of you often and with great affection.
Much love,
Harrison
