Twin Cities Update

Family!

A few updates from The Twin Cities.

1. I survived my first migraine! Three days of excruciating pain--during which I could barely open my eyes. Thank god for my NYC friends (especially Josh K for the Aleve and David for the Uber ride uptown), Lee (for the head massage), Q (for encouraging me to rest) and Christopher (for literally guiding me around the city.

2. My musical collaborators--Jacob and Rebekah--had a concert of their songs at 54 Below on Monday, February 16th. The music from our musical THE LAST QUEEN OF CANAAN brought down the house! Jean Doumanian Productions (http://www.jdpnyc.com/) is pretty excited about the piece. We'll see what happens...

ALSO we'll be workshopping LAST QUEEN in the Twin Cities from April 27-May 10th with Theatre Latte Da as part of their NEXT: New Musicals in the Making Series: http://www.theaterlatteda.com/next/

3. Labyrinth Theatre Company (http://labtheater.org/) has shown some serious interest in my play WHERE STORMS ARE BORN. They've invited me BACK to NYC for a reading on March 20th. The cast includes Adriane Lenox (Tony Award winner for DOUBT), Quincy Tyler Bernstein (Obie Award winner for RUINED), Kyle Beltran (IN THE HEIGHTS), Brian Terrell Clark (MOTOWN), Jason Tam (A CHORUS LINE, IF/THEN) and Christopher Livingston (PARTY PEOPLE). It will be directed by Tony Award nominee Sheryl Kaller.

Labyrinth is considering the play for production next season and ME for inclusion in their ENSEMBLE.

4. The folks from the American Musical Theatre Project at Northwestern University (http://web5.soc.northwestern.edu/amtp/) are interested in my other musical, FIVE POINTS. We (me, Douglas and Ethan) have a meeting on March 22nd (in NYC) with the General Manager.

5. I was invited to attend the 2015 Great Plains Theatre Conference in Omaha, Nebraska (http://www.mccneb.edu/gptc/). I will be workshopping my play SWEET.

Love you all!

Quick Updates from Wichita

Hello Family!

Big apologies for the lack of communication as of late! Here’s just a really brief update from the land of Wichita.

  • Ashley and I have been increasingly involved with our Church as of late which has been incredibly rewarding and exhausting. We are still on the interview team for hiring a new worship/venue leader for our service, and last we week we started hosting and leading a small group over at our house. We are really enjoying the opportunities for connecting with new people and diving deeper into the church community.

  • As you may know, Ashley currently has an impacted tooth or an unerupted tooth so positioned that complete eruption is unlikely. The reasoning for getting her braces was to make enough space to hopefully be able to pull it down. That time has now arrived and she will be having surgery tomorrow. The procedure is said to be more painful than wisdom teeth removal, so please keep her in your thoughts and prayers. She’ll be taking off the rest of the week for healing. I’ve included a link below in case you would like additional details. WARNING: Don’t look if you happen to be eating or are a little squeamish –

  • On a brighter note, starting in mid-March we will also most likely begin meeting with banks/credit unions/Realtors to learn where we stand in the house hunting process. So plenty of anxiety and excitement to go around!
We love and miss you all and hope that things are going well!

Blessings,

Jonathan & Ashley
