Keeping your Secret Santa

Greetings Family,

I do hope this message finds everyone well and filled with the holiday spirit. We are getting our fill of Christmas Movie Marathons in our house and I am eager to rip open those beautiful gifts under the tree!!

The purpose of this message is to propose an idea that came to me today as I was determining the final gift to bestow upon my "Secret Santa" recipient.

We all lead very busy lives and it can be hard to stay in contact. So I propose that whichever member of our growing family that you drew for the Secret Santa, will be in your care until the next holiday season when we draw names. What does this mean?

  • Communicate with that person regularly (weekly, bi-weekly, monthly) in the form of a phone call, letter or card, email, etc.
  • Send cards/gifts for birthdays, graduations, anniversaries, promotions and other exciting things. Nothing extravagant, just small treasures of love and appreciation. For the two people who drew Mom and Dad, they would be responsible for organizing something special for their anniversary in June with all of the siblings input and assistance.
  • Continuously lift that person's needs up in prayer
  • Overall, just make an effort to be a blessing to your family member when they least expect it and stay connected

With that being said, we will need to make sure that everyone has updated emails, addresses, and telephone numbers. Also, the blog that Mom created is a great place to post things to update everyone or a mass email.

After speaking with the matriarch of the family, we think this would be a great way to stay connected as a whole. Please respond with your ideas and thoughts, and whether this is something that you would be interested in doing this year and for years to come.

We miss everyone, and hope you all are staying warm and cozy!!

Blessings,
~ Q

sooo looking forward to seeing you guys.....

since the weather has started to change- baking is in the air!
i will be preparing for our annual cookie baking day, which will probably be december 1st! megan has helped me the last couple of years make cookies to bless our neighbors.

i am looking forward to the day when all my daughters and grandchildren will be in the kitchen with me. of course we will have to "sample" lots of cookies and treats!

since there is nothing like the smell of something baking in the oven, there will definitely be a treat or two for our evening snack time!

seeing you soon! love you much!

Grandma G

grandma g is doing much better. we went out on a store run yesterday. you know how the grandmas
love to shop! I encouraged her to conserve her energy and take it slow.
we got all the shopping done, picked up some chicken and even voted! now she won't have to worry about getting out to vote next Tuesday.

be sure to call or text her whenever you can. do the same for grandma a! they love telling other people how their grand kids take care of them!

a big thank you to #3! thanks for helping to keep grandma's house clean and organized.

see you guys soon!

love you much!

update on Grandma G

hey family,
just a mass update on Granda G-
she has had a rough couple of weeks. lots of pain and is just now feeling better.
the dr. has settled on- (click the link)-trigeminal neuralgia
she still has to see the neurologist in November, so we will find out more later.
it has been quite a rotation of us to watch over her.
Carmen, Karen, Taylor and Brenda have taken shifts to take care of her.
the meds made her very sleepy and dizzy.

last night she was walking around and felt much more like herself. the pain has scared her though, she gets anxious when she feels tremors of pain starting up.

both Grandmas now have medical issues and are not as mobile as they once were.
having said that, I know they would appreciate hearing from each of you on a more consistent
basis. if you have been doing this- good for you, please continue. if you have not- please call these women, they would love to hear form you. they tend to get anxious when they don't hear from you, it gets them to worrying, and that's not good for them.

just a short call, text or email will do. just to hear your voice calms them considerably.
I will try to keep you in the loop and do a better job. this message is not just for you, but for me too!
it is so easy to not call and get wrapped up in our daily lives that we forget about the people that matter to us

also, this same message goes for the D.A.D. - please call this man on a regular basis before he drives me crazy!!!

fall is here

hidee ho family! spent a couple of days with #4 in wichita. good times. thanks jon!
as we closer to the "family event" the leaves are changing color and the air is starting
to crisp up a bit. ahhh fall!
thanks again to megan and james for getting the ball rolling and snagging the cabin.
let's try to get our portion of the payment to them as soon as we can.
i know this is a bit early, but we would like to have names drawn for christmas. this helps with planning and budgeting (maybe even finding some sweet deals as well)!
if you would, i would like q to put everyone's name in a nifty jar and draw for us.
q, you will be the master of the list, so if you forget who you have, contact q!

cabin #8 it is!

i believe this is it! whoo who!

lee, the grill is yours to man!

meet me at the cabin

well family, plans are coming together for our 1st and hopefully annual "rivers family thanksgiving getaway"!  it did not have a name, so i just named it! we can polish up the name later...

thanks to james and megan for the idea and for getting the ball rolling. it will be nice to get together in a laid-back atmosphere. the cabins look amazing and I can't wait to see all of you.

just to refresh your memory and to get you in the mood, here are a few pictures of some of the cabins. Not sure which one we will have yet, but james will let us know.

james, could you please update us by posting to this blog. thanks! also post your comments and suggestions here as well. although this is a public blog, nobody knows about it but us, so we can use it as a way of communicating. until later, love you much!
